Gritomatic on Blade Show 2018

Posted by KONSTANTIN MARTYNENKO

At last, we have received the final production sample of Hapstone R1. We are ready to show it!

Hapstone R1 completes the full product line of knife sharpeners:

  • Hapstone M2 in the economy segment
  • Hapstone V7 in the middle
  • Hapstone R1 in the high-end segment

It was the tough time for Hapstone as R1 and M2 were in development simultaneously. R1 was almost ready in 2017 but was completely redesigned.

We will show all three knife sharpeners on upcoming BladeShow 2018 in Atlanta.

Upcoming products

Gritomatic will add many new KME stones in March. A little preview of first three:

  1. Transition Coticule - purplish blend layer between Yellow Coticule and BBW with unique properties (like a higher performance than Coticule and BBW.) [Photo shows BBW - Transition Coticule - Yellow Coticule for comparison]
  2. Alumina-Zirconia Ceramic (limited edition) - the cut of a LapMaster ceramic disk for lapping microprocessor integral chips. Alumina-Zirconia outperforms Alumina in abrasion resistance.
  3. Soft Washita from Dan's Whetstone - coarser version of Soft Arkansas.

Interactive grit chart

Take a look at our new Interactive grit chart. Whenever you have any sharpening stone opened in Gritomatic.com, you may see grit information in specs. Different colors corresponds to grit range (extra coarse/coarse/medium/fine/extra fine/ultra fine), and abrasive scale is specified.

If you want to check how these grits correspond to another scale, you may click button to open interactive chart. The emphasized column is an abrasive scale used for the selected sharpening stone. Crystal shaped marks show values available grits or a composition of stone set. The green horizontal ruler floats above mouse cursor and helps you to convert grit to another scale. Phone and tablet users may click anywhere to move the ruler to another position.

New naming: 120, 240, 600, 1000, 2500.

Hapstone V7 Hints

Posted by KONSTANTIN MARTYNENKO

There are some counter-intuitive things in Hapstone V7 not covered by User's Guide. 1) The stone holder has little black screw as shown on photo. You can think its purpose is fastening 2 parts of horizontal rod during assembling. But it's not. The little screw is stopper limiting movement of stone holder during readjusting. It's not intended to be used other way. Assembly of horizontal rod is made by hands only, without any tools. 2) The official angle range for Hapstone V7 is 11 to 47 degree, which outperforms most of competition sharpeners. However, you can extend angle range to insane...
