Love/Hate experience.
First off for the money they have a long way to go , the fit and finish is good but tolerances and sturdiness has a lot to be desired.
After fiddling around I can get a good edge.
They are almost there

Within three weeks the 16 screws, holding the clamps together, started falling out. After the 2nd time replacing them, the screw heads stripped. No longer able to tighten the screws meant the clamps worked loose, becoming unusable.
Then the big Allen head screw seized.
I used a mini-hacksaw and cut the bolt between the jaws of the clamp. I replaced both of the screws and square nuts. Using 1/4-20 screws and nuts. This size is a little larger than the original metric screws and nuts. They actually fit better than the originals.
I also purchased 20 m3-0.5x 8mm allen head screws and lock washers. I replaced all of the 16 clamp screws with the new hardware. The screws use a larger allen wrench and are 3mm longer. So they can be tightened tighter. With the lockwashers holding the screws from coming loose. And the extra clamp force from the additional torque of the bigger allen heads, makes these clamps rigid. The lateral movement is all but eliminated. I was able to calibrate the clamps to 0.0degree change when flipping the R2 module.
I am very disappointed in the original hardware choices. For less than $10 I was able to repair/re-engineer these clamps. It's just a shame I had to go through this with a pair of 3 week old $120 clamps with a 5 year warranty. I'm sure Hapstone could have improved the hardware for much less than I spent retail at a big box store.
For this reason alone, I knocked off 2 stars. I only gave this 3 stars. With all this said, I do love this sharpener. I upgraded to the precision adjuster. Changing and maintaining angles has never been so easy. And now that clamps have no deflection my blades have made a significant improvement in sharpness. Gliding effortlessly through cardboard. All in all it is a great product. I highly recommend it. Just be prepared to have to replace some hardware...

It's a good starting platform for most of your sharpening needs. There are a fair number of addons to sharpen different items like scissors or chisels. I'm a little disappointed because the holder that the linear bearing passes through is loose and that allows a couple degrees of slop for the sharpening arm. I think at this price point things should be tighter for a more consistent edge.

it's truly a sturdy piece of equipment and it sharpens knives quickly. I love it. I would recommend to anyone looking for a mid priced fixed angle sharpener.

Bought this for a Christmas present so I really can't tell you anything about it. We have friend who purchased a different one from you and we tried his out and my husband loved it. Hopefully he will be surprised at Christmas and will love it.

I have been sharpening for many years, I’m an enthusiast woodworking and hunter!
I love my Tormek T8 with original wheel, plus a diamond wheel upgrade and Japanese water Stone... I also have a Viel belt grinder with trizac and leather belt for stropping… Those two contraptions are absolut great tools, but it can be nerve racking to sharp expensive Japanese knives, Wustoff or complicated tips on hunting knives… I wasn't not comfortable putting these knives through that process! I also tried Japanese water stones and ended up with DMT diamond plates… A real learning curve I guess!
I'm sorry, I know there are very talented people out there that can do magic with japanese stones, but with my hand, my condition with arthritis, my muscle memory… I am just not comfortable and I wasn't getting the right precise angle and it was very easy for me to roll the edge at the end of a sharpening session! So after weeks of shopping, lurking through Youtube, I decided to go with the Hampton R2 system with the Jende Atoma diamond plate. OMG! The Jende Atoma diamond plates are just fabulous. I did get the 140, 400, 600, and 1200 combo with the artificial stoop (and 4 micro spray). The results: just wow! Repeatable angle, confirmation with the angle finder, stropping, just a great process with splendid edge result! With the Hapstone R2 + Jende Atoma plate, I’m in a sharpening happy place!
I also did get the scissor adapter, I used to sharpen my barber salon shear (expensive German Jaguar shear). Doing it for free and always being a bit nervous, free hand with diamond plate Xfine@ 47degres sharpening and working flat the burr… The Hapstone scissor jig with half inch Boride is great for simple bevel angles (convex bevel is another topic…). Yep, it is cutting wet tissue paper !
Bravo Gritomatic! You are offering absolut top gear! After digesting the custom UPS fees to Canada (took me an hour) I’m absolutely thrilled with my latest addition to my sharpening addiction! Why did I wait so long…

Hapstone R2 knife sharpener
I spent 9 hours sharpening knives and scissors the first weekend that I had the R2. I just couldn’t stop I was having so much fun. This is my first high quality knife sharpener and it exceeded all my expectations. With all the updates Hapstone has done to the R2, I’d say it’s the perfect knife and scissors sharpener.

Awesome!!!
I am so glad I decided to pickup the R2. It came in perfect condition and rotating the clamp showed no change in angle! Pick yourself up two spring stops and the fine tuning adapter.

Very nice product. Infinitely better than the worksharp.
Jeanne Touchton
Very nice unit.my only criticism is the hook that holds the arm up keeps falling out. It is only threaded for about an eighth of an inch.

This is great for the price! There are a couple of things I will be improving myself. But for $250, killer deal!

I am writing this review for anyone looking to upgrade from the Lansky System. After 10 yrs. of using the Lansky I decided to try a more expensive system. There is little info out there about the more advanced systems and what you do find are ads or "reviews" from people who have received free equipment. If you are in my situation I hope this helps.
I bought the Hapstone System without a bundle and purchased higher quality stones separately. So far I have sharpened a Pro Tech Runt J4 w/ a 2" blade, a Microtech Killswitch w/ a 3.25" Elmax blade(my work knife), a Fox tang folder w/ a N690 3" blade, two Swiss made steak knives and a cheap 8" chef knife.
For the Elmax blade I used 6" stones at 20 degrees:
-140 Atoma
-600 Atoma
-15 micron JENDE resin bonded
-2k Chosera
-3 micron JENDE resin bonded
-20k Suehiro
-.05 Jende Poly Diamond on cowhide strop
It only took a few passes on each stone up to the 15 micron to get a burr. The Chosera took around 6 passes with additional work on the tip and curve. It was possible to get a burr with the 20k stone although this step took over an hour to accomplish. The diamond poly worked surprisingly well. It is so easy to use, I will never go back to the green and red block rouge. I used one clamp for the Pro Tech and two clamps for the other knives. Both setups worked well and the clamps held firm. There is some minor give but it did not effect the outcome of any knife. When sharpening the 8" blade the base kept tipping forward on me. You would need to attach the unit to a table or bench to sharpen any knife larger than an 8" chef.
If you routinely sharpen knives this system is well worth the money. It is so much faster, and safer, to use over the Lansky. After several days of use the Hapstone feels sturdy enough to last. The sharpness this system is capable of is way beyond what I could ever do with the Lansky.
I do have a few grips however. The Hapstone fine tuning adapter as well as the end stoppers are needed for this system to work efficiently. As it stands you get nickeled & dimed to the tune of $50 to get these items, which should come as standard equipment. The stones present another problem, no two are the same thickness. This results in you having to adjust the jig every time you change stones. Buying the same brand of stone does not alleviate the problem. As an example many of mine were made by JENDE. Even the resin bonded stones are of different thicknesses. Why should I be forced to adjust the jig between 15 and 3 micron stones? The difference is literally microscopic!
As for Gritomatic, I ordered 15 items and got exactly what I ordered, in 4 days.
I would recommend buying and angle finder and at least a 30x jewelers loupe if you decide on this system. I would also recommend grabbing some painter's tape. On the smaller knives the stones will scuff up the finish, just at the top of the handle, if left uncovered.

Hapstone R2 modular system.
I’m having a 2 slight issues.
1. after knife is clamped in the jaws and I zero one the rotating module then check the angle on the stone holder I’m getting 1/2 degeee difference from one side of the knife to the other. Not sure how to zero the clamps.
2. If I zero the angle cube on the rotating module then Set my sharpening angle then check to see if the angle of the rotating module then check again on the blade I’m showing 2 1/2 degree difference. So if I zero on the rotating module then check for zero on the. Made im showing 2 1/2 degree difference for zeroing on the blade or rotating module.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks y’all and enjoy

Moved from a KME and really liking the Hapstone. Well built, heavy enough to stay in place, incredibly smooth with the bearing in the stone-holder rod. The clampng system is OK, but never seem to get them really tight on the cross arm, that system could be improved, but works well enough with two arms holding the knife in place. All in all very pleased and enjoying using it, no longer looking to upgrade, this is good enough for me for the forseeable future.

Quality with versatility
I have built a chisel adapter and a plane blade adapter. I can sharpen chisels and plane blades to the same high quality as a knife.
