Agate sharpening stones should be used with honing oil or water as lubricant. The stone does not absorb oil or water. When using honing oil, put a small amount (1-2 drops) on the stone’s surface and spread it evenly over the stone with a finger. Remove the used lubricant with a paper towel.

Quotes

This stone is quite hard and leaves a fairly polished surface, it makes a small amount of slurry, but nothing like most J-nats or Japanese synthetic water stones. The results on stainless steel are very good, the polish is slightly frosted as opposed to shiny, but the edge produced is exceptional.
