Description

Hapstone Premium CBN is a new series of CBN stones for sharpening knives using guided knife sharpeners (Hapstone, TSPROF, and other Edge Pro-compatible sharpening systems). Hapstone Premium CBN utilizes advanced hybrid metal-polymer binder - composite of traditional copper-tin alloy and polymer components. Hybrid binder inherits exceptional wear resistance and cutting performance of metallic binder.

CBN (Cubic Boron Nitride) is the second-hardest material after diamond. Hapstone Premium CBN consists of a 3mm thick CBN-bearing layer mounted on a premium black aluminum blank.

CBN's qualities include high levels of high hardness, strength, abrasion resistance, and thermal and chemical resistance. These characteristics exceed the values of synthetic diamonds and conventional abrasives such as silicon carbide and aluminum oxide. In particular, CBN's high thermal stability and chemical resistance make it suitable for sharpening in conditions where synthetic diamonds are not normally employed.

CBN offers excellent performance in sharpening knives of any steel. Due to its high resistance specs, CBN can be used dry without lubricant. This makes CBN the cleanest of the available sharpening stones.

How to use

Attention! Hapstone Premium CBN stones may seem bald out-of-the-box. This is by design.

Hapstone Premium CBN can be used without lubricants.

Premium CBN stones may become darker over time due to natural metal oxidizing. It does not affect the sharpening.

Premium CBN stones do not require any preparations.

New purchase. So far used for spy27, rex121, maxamet, s90v. Hapstone premium CBN 120, Venev Chameleon dual sided metallic CBN 240-400, Venev Unicorn dual sided resin CBN 800-1200, Hapstone premium CBN 2000, Chosera 5000, Chosera 10000, Stroppy stuff 1 micron strop. Hapstone premium CBN, and the new Venev CBN stones worked flawlessly for sharpening to my satisfaction with my limited skills. Chosera's were just for some unnecessary polishing.

Not sure how to truly review this one since I’m pretty sure I received a mislabeled stone. I ordered the 50 grit to have a designated profiling stone but the one I got left a much smoother scratch pattern than expected and the surface is not rough to the touch. The quality of the stone is great but ultimately it’s not doing the job I ordered it for. I tried reaching out to gritomatic via the ask a question option on this site, by email and also tried their number listed a few times but I haven’t received any response. Hoping to have this issue resolved so I can update my review.

Purchasing from Gritomatic north of Atlanta is a treat. I live visiting the store and seeing products first hand and discussing new products. My latest effort is obtaining a set of Hybrid CBN 6” stones. These a magical, easy to care for, use and to clean. My blades turn out exceptionally share quicker than ever. Cutting regular paper is no longer a fair test. Had to changer to the thinnest paper I can find. Give the team a try and get the best service available. Started sharpening in 1952 so have seen many tools, these are really great.

I wanted to try the 50 grit CBN stone for reprofiling and was really impressed with the feedback, the material removed, and how nice the scratch pattern was for a 50 grit. I'm really falling in love with Hapstone and their CBN stones. Might get more low grit stones because I love the performance.

This is a really great stone, it is very good quality and should last a very long time. I wasn't sure that an 8000 grit stone was going to make a noticeable difference but it really does. It gets the edge ridiculously sharp.

I really like these Hapstone stones and have turned out to be my favorite out of the Edge Pro Diamond and the Boride T2 sets. The Hapstones cut really fast and bring a polished finish and I have been able to get my best Bess scores when finished with the Hapstones. My best Bess score is 96.333 out of three separate tests. I ordered the 8000, 5000, 600, 240, 120, and 50 grit from Gritomatic and ordered the rest of the grit sizes directly from Hapstone. Just be sure to order from Hapstone USA as the shipping will be MUCH faster.

This stone does a good job as far and the grit goes. However, I need more information about the care and maintenance for cleaning and when to know when the stone has lost its usefulness that is not in the product description. I plant to buy a lower grit in order to modify the knife to facilitate modifying and sharpening with one inch stones.

Recently upgraded my sharpening system to the Hapstone RS and a set of the Hapstone premium CBN stones. I absolutely love this setup can't say enough good things about it. Build quality seems top notch and the CBN stones are fantastic. Hapstone recommended using their magic oil with the CBN stones and that was a really great recommendation. I also purchased the case for the system and that is also very convenient and high quality if you sharpen infrequently and want to be able to safely store everything.

I just received 2 stones,so far,not as aggressive as the Poltava brand but $20 cheaper,so I ordered 4 more grits.I no longer use diamond stones at all !

I am completely shocked at how much polish an 80 grit stone can leave. A 600 grit ATOMA has more scratches. This stone is aggressive enough for reprofiling but gentle enough that you won’t spend 90 minutes removing gouges. Really worth the money if you are chasing beautiful edges.
