Sungari Stones are used for finish or pre-finish sharpening on KME or Hapstone knife sharpeners.
Sungari is mined in the Sungari river in China. Sungari is natural slate.
Sungari stones are universal, and can be used to sharpen knives of any steel.
Sungari stone is preliminary lapped and does not require lapping after purchase.
Agate sharpening stones should be used with honing oil or water as lubricant. The stone does not absorb oil or water. When using honing oil, put a small amount (1-2 drops) on the stone’s surface and spread it evenly over the stone with a finger. Remove the used lubricant with a paper towel.
This stone is quite hard and leaves a fairly polished surface, it makes a small amount of slurry, but nothing like most J-nats or Japanese synthetic water stones. The results on stainless steel are very good, the polish is slightly frosted as opposed to shiny, but the edge produced is exceptional.
