Amakusa Whetstones are used for medium sharpening on Hapstone or Edge Pro sharpeners. Estimated grit for Amakusa is 400-800 JIS. Amakusa stones are mounted on high quality aluminum blanks.
Amakusa (天草) Whetstone is mined in Amakusa, Kyushu, in Japan
Amakusa stones are universal, and can be used to sharpen knives of any steel. Amakusa may be used for fine pre-finishing on high carbon steels.
Amakusa Whetstones should be used with water. Soak Amakusa in the water for 2 minutes before use. During the sharpening, slurry is released from the surface. The Try to keep slurry on stone surface.
Amakusa may have slight natural imperfections. Amakusa stones may have small caverns as minor defects. Amakusa stones always have a color pattern; this is not a defect.
Amakusa stone does not require any preparations. Refresh stone surface with a coarse dressing stone if the surface becomes glazed.
