Atoma Diamonds are used for sharpening knives on KME and Hapstone knife sharpeners. Diamonds offer excellent performance in sharpening knives of any steel including high carbon, vanadium, and chromium steels.
Atoma Diamond consists of a diamond-bearing nickel plate mounted on the high-quality aluminum blank. In contrast to regular coated diamonds, all diamond particles in Atoma are gathered into cluster pattern. This approach gives Atoma diamonds higher sharpening performance in comparison with any other diamonds.
Atoma Diamonds are recommended to be used with water as a lubricant. Just splash, or use a water spray.
Note. Atoma grit values are specified according to JIS R 6010, Japanese standard for coated abrasives. JIS R 6010 is very different in particle size definition than JIS R 6001, the standard for bonded abrasives commonly used worldwide. JIS R 6010 is almost identical to FEPA-P, the European standard for coated abrasives. Please refer to FEPA-P column in our Grit Chart.
Note. Atoma cannot be used on magnet-based Hapstone knife sharpeners.
